>Mother’s Day (Part 1)

>With Mother’s Day so close to Easter I find myself a bit behind on getting examples of whats offered for the Moms in your life.  By week’s end all should be good, until then let me start by introducing Shortycake’s Vintage Card Cookies.  I’ll admit, even I don’t want to actually eat these they are so cute!

These cards will be available individually bagged or as part of a package with about 4 or 6 smaller cookies.  (The packaging for this should be in tomorrow…clear lidded boxes. Perfect!)

The other Mother’s Day newbie is the Mother’s Day Mod Flower Themed Dozen displayed in a matching box base, cello wrapped a bowed.

And the cookie I’m most excited about introducing is the Shortycake Scrapbook Cookie. It’s a 6″x6″ square cookie base decorated to resemble a scrapbook page…yet edible! You supply a picture to add to it and yet again another perfect present!

Yes, I’m experimenting with new visual concepts for Shortycake Creations. The black, white, red I love but it is a bit harsh and that little Marketing Angel on my shoulder is insistent on a change.

As I was looking through pastry recipes I came across a picture that hit me so hard I knew I had to get that feel for my shop.

Cinnamon & Spice Cookie Recipe

Cinnamon and Spice Cookies

Ingredients

2 cups/500 mL all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp/7.5 mL baking soda
1 tsp/5 mL Purest Ground Cinnamon 6 oz.
1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Organic Nutmeg
1/2 tsp/2.5 mL salt
1 1/2 cups/375 mL sugar
12 tbsp/180 mL butter (1 ½ sticks), softened
1 egg
1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Original Double-Strength Vanilla
1/4 cup/60 mL molasses

Cooking Directions

Preheat oven to 350F/180C. In a medium bowl whisk flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. In a shallow bowl set aside 1/2 cup/125 mL sugar.
With an electric mixer beat butter, remaining sugar, egg, vanilla, and molasses until well blended. Combine with dry ingredients until dough forms. Roll dough into 1 inch/2.5 cm balls and dip in 1/2 cup/125 mL reserved sugar.
Arrange on a baking sheet, about 3-inches/7.5-cm apart. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.
